Surprise!
Life is full of surprises. Some times the surprises are pleasant and makes one happy, and the remaining ones are shocking/unpleasant/uncalled for. In general, life is full of surprises.
It would be nice to know that a friend got rewarded for nothing, but it would be more depressing to know that a friend got nothing in return for all the time and effort put in. What is common to both? - the surprise element.
Some how this particular phase of being in final year is really depressing. I hope it passes soon.

I can't really say much about the final year, but I can relate to this.
